Production Schedule Update

Hello Backers,
In our "Cautiously Optimistic" update back on June 9th, we shared that there was a possibility that we would be able to deliver your Rozebuds sometime in November - one month ahead of schedule. Due to our strong relationship with our manufacturer, we are pleased to update that we remain on track to achieve the accelerated timeline! Our team sent us a shipment of golden samples this week and based on those samples, we green lighted them to start mass production in the middle of October.
In full transparency, we did find a glitch while using YouTube on an Android. The autopause required two clicks of the buds to get the video to stop. The play still works immediately upon disconnection. Other apps we tested were not affected. We're happy to test particular Android apps you're using - just let us know. For all you IPhone users out there, no issue for you at all!
Other wildly important features such as audio quality and Bluetooth range were successfully reviewed and tested in all the golden samples.

Major Update: Pilot Production Run

Hello Dear Backers,
We’ve just returned from a trip to our factory in Shenzhen to oversee the pilot production run. The run went very well and this update provides a full description of the results and what took place.
Firstly, an overview of the purpose of the pilot - There were 5 objectives:
1. Ensure that the brand new molds form components that fit perfectly, both together with each other and with the electronics components that they will house.
2. Finalize the packaging design and ensure that the finished product fits perfectly into the package template.
3. Oversee the start-to-end manufacturing process in order to make things as efficient as possible and ensure that quality is built into the product.
4. Produce a sample of completed products that can be provided to our compliance lab for full regional and compliance testing.
5. And most importantly, satisfy ourselves that all functions perform to our standards of quality, including audio, automatic and manual functions, Bluetooth and battery life.
The remainder of this update provides a detailed look into how each of these objectives were achieved.
Objective 1 – Component Fit
The images below show various views of the inter dependent fits of the components, as well as the electronic components being inserted.

The only issue we uncovered in meeting this first objective was the inter-dependent fit of some of the components. In some cases, we found it was too easy to pry pieces apart and so we are going to adjust the molds to address this before going to full production.
Objective 2 – Packaging Design
In the images below Bev and Alicia are deep in fine-tuning discussions with our Project Manager and Package Designer.

Objective 3 – Manufacturing Process
The pilot provided an excellent view for us to observe the full manufacturing process. The factory impressed us with their attention to detail and we engaged in a number of conversations on process efficiencies.

Objective 4 - Samples for Compliance Testing
By the end of the pilot we have our first completed samples created from our molds.
Objective 5 - Rozebuds Internal Quality Testing
Following rigorous testing, our assessment is as follows:
The audio meets our requirements for premium quality and easily compares to or improves upon existing Bluetooth headphones we have used as benchmarks.
The bluetooth range indoors is excellent, with minimal (and in many cases, zero) interruptions, even up to 12m and in adjacent rooms. In a fun test, we went through airport security wearing the buds and inserted them before our bag arrived. The audio reconnected and started playing while the bag was still in the x-ray machine with the phone inside.
When using outdoors, we were able to use the phone in our pockets as well as backpack with minimal interruptions. However, if the phone is not close to the Rozebuds when in open spaces outdoors there are slightly more interruptions
All functions, including both the automated on/off, auto call answering and all manual controls worked flawlessly.
The battery lasted for 5 hours at full volume and 6.5 hours at 70% volume.
We want to again pass on our utmost appreciation for your incredible support. The molds, the pilot run and (very soon) the first production batch have all been financed from our Kickstarter campaign - and none of it would be possible without you.

Words can't describe how thankful we are for your incredible support. Each and every one of you has helped make this campaign possible. So from the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
Now that the campaign is wrapping up we are able to focus exclusively on achieving quality production of your Rozebuds. Our factory is gearing up for a late July pilot production run. This will be the first test of our tooling and will allow us to fine-tune the components and electronics. Each part will be thoroughly checked and tooling modified accordingly. We will assemble a small number of completed products which will allow us to perform a series of compliance and reliability tests. From this pilot run we'll schedule our first full production batch - aka your batch!
We are making plans to travel to our factory in Shenzhen to oversee the pilot run and make sure that everything meets our quality standards. We are extremely excited for this huge step in the genesis of our company and will keep you posted on relevant updates as they occur.

Backer Q&A: What about the "Travel Time"

We received another interesting question from a backer that we thought would be good to share. The backer was concerned about the possible lost podcast content due to the time it takes to convert your Rozebuds from headphones to necklace. He was especially concerned as he listens at 1.5 speed.
We set up an experiment using an ice bucket as our model because why not ;) The metal surface was ideal as it enabled attaching the buds. We clocked the travel time from headphones to necklace at under a second with the return taking one second - even at 1.5 speed. So you won't miss any of your podcast - at least not because of Rozebuds.
